Jana Sanchez dominates Spanish Motocross Championship opener

The 2025 Spanish Motocross Championship kicked off this weekend at Motorland Aragon, with intense battles setting the stage for an exciting season. Due to morning fog on Saturday, the race schedule saw slight modifications. With defending champion Daniela Guillen opting out of the series this year, the title race is wide open.

Jana Sanchez claims victory and red plate

Jana Sanchez (1/1), Guillen’s Mequite GasGas Racing teammate, established herself as the championship favorite by dominating both motos. A multiple-time Spanish vice-champion, Sanchez showcased her skill and consistency to secure two race wins, leaving Motorland Aragon with the red plate. Virginie Germond (2/2) returned to the Spanish MX Championship in strong form. The Swiss KTM rider displayed great speed and consistency, making her Sanchez’s main competitor this season. Despite minor mistakes, Germond secured second place overall. Elsa Andersson-Löf (3/3), the reigning 125cc European Motocross Champion, rounded out the podium. Struggling with starts against the bigger bikes, the GasGas rider fought her way through the pack in both races, delivering a strong third-place finish.

Anna Gonzalez narrowly misses the podium

Anna Gonzalez (4/4) delivered an impressive performance, staying competitive throughout the weekend. The Kawasaki rider fought hard in Race 2, narrowly missing a podium spot by just two seconds. Natalia Rosado (7/5) secured fifth overall, recovering from a tough first race to battle her way into the Top 5 on Sunday. The Honda rider edged out Julieta Croci (6/7), who showed strong speed and consistency across both motos.

Tight battles for the Top 10

Zoe Querol (10/6) finished seventh today. The Kawasaki rider had a bit of trouble finding the right rhythm in the first race. Better in the second, she battled with Rosado and Croci. Cristina De Juan Flores (8/8) finished eighth, tied on points with Querol. The Honda rider was consistent in both races. Pau Deya (9/9) took ninth place in a similar rhythm to De Juan Flores. Sofia Gomez (12/10) completed the Top 10 of this first round.
