Weekend Race Preview #1 : Spain, New Zealand

This weekend several national motocross championships start in Spain, New Zealand while Malou Jakobsen will try to qualify in Italy. Discover all the information concerning this race weekend.

Spain – The Spanish Motocross Championship Kicks Off at Motorland Aragon

The 2025 Spanish Motocross Championship opens its season this weekend at Motorland Aragon in Alcaniz. This year promises to be an exciting one as we see the competition heat up, especially with the absence of Daniela Guillen, who has decided to focus on the Spanish Elite MX2 Championship and her preparation for the WMX World Championship.

With Guillen out, the race for the championship is wide open. The big favorite is Jana Sanchez, who has been a consistent contender in Spain, finishing as vice-champion four times. After securing multiple podiums in the past, 2025 could finally be her year. She’ll be riding her new GasGas, and fans are eager to see how she performs in this new chapter of her career.

Aitana Pena, who finished third last season, won’t be racing this weekend due to a crash at the end of 2024. However, Anna Gonzalez, who secured fourth place in 2024, is ready to climb the ranks and challenge for the title. Gonzalez, racing for Kawasaki, is in great form and could surprise many this season.

Other riders to watch include Virginie Germond, who will be looking to make a statement after a solid 2024 season. The battle for the top spots is on, and with several strong riders, this opening round promises to be thrilling!

Elsa Andersson-Löf is present for this first round. The reigning 125 European motocross champion has been training for several weeks in Spain. The Swede will be one of the candidates for the podium.

New Zealand - The New Zealand Championship starts in Tauranga

The season starts in New Zealand where Karaitiana Horne is putting her title on the line. The young Kawasaki rider will be one of the big favourites but will have to face many contenders. All the other riders selected to represent New Zealand at the next FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup are also present, starting with Amie Roberts. After giving birth to her first child, the double National champion is back with the desire to win a new title.

Olivia Bodle, Mikayla Griffiths and Milla Dahlenberg will try to get good results and get closer to this duo. Even if many riders in the Top 10 of the 2024 championship are not present for this opening of the championship, the competition is still going to be strong with the presence of Taylah McCutcheon. The Australian is announced as one of the favourites on her Kawasaki.

Malou Jakobsen will try to obtain her qualification

Malou Jakobsen, rider of the KL Racing Team, will be at Montevarchi for the International Italian Motocross Championship in the MX2 category. After her debut last week, the Dane will try to qualify to participate in the races. With only 42 registered for 41 places behind the grid, we hope that she will be directly qualified for the races.
